Big Lip Pike Cichlid (Crenincichla tendybaguassu)

Big Lip Pike Cichlid — Crenicichla tendybaguassu
South America’s streamlined ambush hunter

The Big Lip Pike Cichlid is a long, torpedo-shaped predator built for speed and precision. Its extended snout, oversized mouth, and muscular frame give it the look of a freshwater barracuda, while the earthy tan and bronze patterning provides natural camouflage among wood and rock. The species name “tendybaguassu” translates roughly to “large mouth,” and it earns that title — this fish feeds by sudden forward bursts rather than prolonged chases.

Native to flowing river channels of South America, Crenicichla tendybaguassu spends much of its time hovering in place, watching carefully before striking. It is alert and intelligent, quickly recognizing feeding routines and reacting instantly when food hits the water. Compared to bulky predators, its behavior is calculated and efficient.

Reaching 14–18+ inches, this pike cichlid becomes a commanding midwater predator and a perfect choice for large South American predator displays.
